North Lake College’s art gallery will feature Wo-Jung: Friendship from Saturday, September 16 – Thursday, October 12. Created by South Korean artists Sunny Jacquet and Susan Kim, the artwork combines trompe l’oeil and other classical painting techniques with surreal settings of still life objects. As well, the artwork includes handcrafted quilts known as Gyubang, which combines older classic techniques joined with contemporary thoughts and style.
Sunny Jacquet is a former NLC art student and influential painter in DFW. Her highest level of education includes a Master’s degree in Arts from Texas Women’s University. Jacquet’s paintings manifest her love for travel and study. Her paintings and artwork have been displayed in a variety of businesses and schools including Texas Women’s University Denton and Houston campuses. She was also selected as one of the “New Dallas Nine” 2009 awards at the D-Art slam show sponsored by D-Magazine.
Susan Kim crafts Gyubang, which is the process of using natural dye, sewing, knotting and embroidery to express the traditional beauty of Korea. Her desire is to express creative energy through her artwork. Kim has won many national and international awards in quilt competitions and exhibitions, and she has also been an instructor for many years. She currently resides in Seattle, Washington.
An artist reception will be held on Tuesday, September 19 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
