Showing now in the Central Campus Art Gallery is the 2016 Spotlight Show, featuring student artwork by Ian Grieve, Allison Garza, Julia Cartwright, Veronica Cumbie and Clayton Oliver (featured above). This diverse collection of work will run from August 20 through September 15.
A reception for the artists will be held on Tuesday, September 6 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the gallery.
About the Show: The annual NLC Student Spotlight Show features artwork created by a group of students selected by the college’s art faculty. Selected students sign up for classes and throughout the summer learn about gallery practices, the why, how, where and when of art making, as well as the ups and downs of the various processes. Upon completion of their respective classes, the group then self selects the pieces that will be shown in the Spotlight, learns how to install them, and designs their own announcement card (shown above). Each student also develops an artist statement and resume.
