NLC Journalism Students Win a Dozen Statewide Awards

It was another great year for North Lake College journalism students at this year’s Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention, which was held in Corpus Christi in March 2019. Students from the News-Register received 12 awards despite participating in a highly competitive division of colleges that included St. Edwards University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Texas Wesleyan University, and Trinity University. Faculty Spotlight: Kathleen Stockmier

Kathleen Stockmier Kathleen Stockmier enrolled as a journalism student at North Lake College as a 32-year-old mother of two. She had no idea the connection would last a lifetime. A successful career as a TV and print reporter led Kathleen back to North Lake, where she became Student Publications Manager in 1997. Seventeen years and 456 state and national awards into her tenure, NLC’s student journalists are still learning from Stockmier’s leadership.
