Art Professor Brett Dyer Beat the Odds
Brett Dyer’s life wasn’t always artistic. He grew up in a family that didn’t care for art, and as a child he rarely encountered it. Now, though, he specializes in painting—and in teaching. As a professor, and as the 2015-16 NLC President’s Scholar, Dyer focuses his attention on students like his younger self, who are still discovering that they can express themselves through creativity.

Tyler Huynh’s Chance to Save the World
Over two years at NLC, Tyler Huynh recovered his sense of purpose and set himself on a career path. This May, Huynh graduated with an associate of science degree, a concentration in sustainability studies, and plans to study environmental engineering at Southern Methodist University in the fall.
In Students’ Hands, Campus Garden Thrives
Despite its tranquil appearance, the North Lake College garden bustles with activity. Students from the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and NLC Green Club help tend the community garden several days a week, and this summer college faculty and staff are joining them.
