The Better Business Bureau has compiled a list of tips for deciding on the best place to donate. —Verify the trustworthiness of soliciting relief organizations by visiting Give.org to access free reports that specify if the charity meets the 20 standards for charity accountability.
Take the time to research any organization that claims it will be helping victims of Hurricane Harvey to be certain that your money will be used to help those in need and not taken by a scam artist.

Donate Blood Today at NLC
Here at North Lake we have extended the dates of our blood drive in support of this catastrophic situation, with hours, Aug. 31 from 9:30-3:30 in Liberty Circle.
Help Our Students Help Harvey Evacuees
The North Lake Gay/Straight Alliance and Student Leadership Institute are collecting items for evacuees coming to Irving. Top items include toiletries/hygiene products, new socks/underwear and baby items. Monetary donations can be made by texting ‘HARVEY’ to 90999 or online at redcross.org. To drop off donations or for a complete list of needed items, please come by Student Life in H201 or call (972)273-3020.

An organization named Samaritans Purse will be needing volunteers for clean-up in Houston. They are calling for 1000 volunteers a day. Volunteers will be needed to assist families, seniors and disabled to clean up their homes and neighborhoods. Volunteers can help by removing trash to harder tasks like removing carpet, furniture and sheetrock, so homes can dry out.

Displaced Students seeking Educational Support
The DCCCD is working on a coordinated fundraising campaign effort with the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC), Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), Independent Colleges & Universities of Texas (ICUT), Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT), and others to help students impacted by the storm.

We are also in contact with THECB officials for guidance and flexibility on how to serve impacted students. When displaced students show up at our colleges, we simply must do all that we can to provide assistance.
