North Lake College's art department currently presents the 2019 Student Art Exhibition through Wednesday, May 8 in the Art Gallery at the Central Campus. The student artwork exhibit includes a collection of 2D and 3D design, ceramics, computer graphics, digital image, drawing, painting and sculpture by NLC art students. The exhibition is free and open to the community. An artist reception will be held on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the Art Gallery. Light refreshments will be served. This spring's NLC student dance concert is presented in a reality TV-style format: First, the audience will watch a short video of early rehearsals from the practice rooms. Then the screen goes up and the finished dances are presented live. The nine performances showcase a variety of dance styles, plus songs from The Greatest Showman and A Star is Born. As always, the dance concert is completely free and open to the general public. Earth Day is a beloved part of the North Lake College calendar. That's why in 2019, for the second year in a row, we're not stopping at just one day -- we're planning over a week of free events and activities on campus and around Dallas. The celebration concludes at Fair Park in downtown Dallas, when NLC attends the EarthX conference - one of the largest Earth Day celebrations in the world. At North Lake College, we want our students to be involved as global citizens in the local community and beyond. One of the projects we have worked on to engage our Blazers on real world issues is the Sole Hope Project. NLC has worked with the organization Sole Hope to collect denim donations to help make shoes for Ugandan children since Fall 2016.
