“Professionalism: Essential in Education and Employment”
Participants in this workshop will have an opportunity to enhance their understanding of professionalism and its importance both on and off campus. A panel of Human Resources professionals and College Faculty will address the basic tenets of work ethic/professionalism including appearance (attire/grooming/hygiene), communication (oral and written), punctuality, ethics and their effects in the classroom and in the work environment. The featured panelists will include our own Dr. Malcom Frierson, Professor of History, Dr. Darryl Howard, Professor of Religion and Philosophy Discipline Coordinator, and Ms. Kay Nixon, Human Resources Specialist.

Ms. McClain will present exercises that reveal one’s ability to work on a team effectively, assist with identifying strengths as individuals and as team members, and enables one to eventually lead and delegate the right duties to the right people.

Perhaps your resume is raising “red” flags or it just does not have what the employer is looking for. First Year Advising & Career Development in partnership with Ms. Melida Barrera, Talent Acquisition Specialist at DFW Airport, and Mr. Jared Fitzpatrick, Diversity Outreach & Talent Acquisition Consultant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, will provide participants with tools to build resumes employers want to read and a candidate they want to interview.

“Making the Most of Your Degree” (Co-Hosted with TRIO SSS)
A college degree increases career options and career opportunities. Many degreed individuals, however, do not know what their options are or how to pursue related career opportunities. This workshop will assist participants with identifying and acquiring employment within their related career options. A panel of career professionals will share their career development; what provoked any career transitions; how they identified relevant career options; and how they obtained employment. The featured panelists will include our own Mr. Charles Purdy, Instructional Lab Coordinator, TRIO Student Support Services and electrical engineer.

North Lake College First Year Advising & Career Development will host “Spring Career Fair 2019” Thursday, March 28th, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Student Life Center (H200). Participants should bring plenty of resumes and dress for success for an opportunity to speak to more than 50 employers offering employment opportunities that correlate with Guided Pathways. Career and Financial Reality Fair (Co-Hosted with Trio SSS)
The Career and Financial Reality Fair is an opportunity for attendees to preview real life hands-on. The student will be choosing a career and starting salary, then complete a budget sheet requiring them to live within their monthly salary while paying for basics such as housing, utilities, transportation, clothing and food. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to experience some of the financial challenges they will face when they start life on their own.
