Connections Program Helps NLC Students Meet Basic Needs

If you're a student struggling to meet basic needs -- like food, shelter, or clothing -- North Lake College can help you find solutions with the confidential Connections program. Connections provides assistance to students via community resources. North Lake College's Central Campus is now equipped with brand-new charging stations for portable electronics. If your cell phone is running low on battery, head over to our blue "Charge Up" stations for a quick boost. Spring Dance Concert

This spring's NLC student dance concert is presented in a reality TV-style format: First, the audience will watch a short video of early rehearsals from the practice rooms. Then the screen goes up and the finished dances are presented live. The nine performances showcase a variety of dance styles, plus songs from The Greatest Showman and A Star is Born. As always, the dance concert is completely free and open to the general public. Earth Week Festivities at NLC

Earth Day is a beloved part of the North Lake College calendar. An Inside Look at NLC’s Hydroponic Farming

Students in North Lake College's introductory biology class, BIOL 1406, don't just learn about plant life from a textbook. They get an introduction to gardening, too. On the second floor of NLC's C building, two hydroponics tables house an ever-growing collection of vegetables and herbs. The tables are tended by BIOL 1406 students in the Green Club, with help from science lab assistant Katelyn Miller and Green Club sponsors Amanda Mello and Jordan Sloop. NLC Journalism Students Win a Dozen Statewide Awards

It was another great year for North Lake College journalism students at this year’s Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention, which was held in Corpus Christi in March 2019. Students from the News-Register received 12 awards despite participating in a highly competitive division of colleges that included St. Edwards University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Texas Wesleyan University, and Trinity University. NLC Students Return from Civil Rights Field Trip

On Sunday, March 24, North Lake College students and faculty returned from the Civil Rights Field Trip, a bus tour which took students to important historic sites and museums commemorating the Civil Rights Movement in the American South. On the trip, NLC students visited the National Civil Rights Monument, Rosa Parks Museum, 16th Street Baptist Church, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and Legacy Museum in Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, Mississippi.
