When it comes to having a sustainable campus, it is North Lake’s mission to lead the way in growing awareness of environmental responsibility. But our efforts don’t stop on the campus level.

Alpha Zeta Eta, NLC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, recently won 1st place within the college/university category in the Ruthe Jackson Youth Leadership Awards at the 49th Annual Keep Texas Beautiful (KIB) State Conference. Held on June 20-22 in Sugar Land, TX, the conference awarded and recognized various companies and organizations for their support in sustaining the community.

Leader of the pack
Manuella Logbo, recent North Lake alumnus and Alpha Zeta Eta’s 2015-16 VP of Service, represented the honor society’s efforts in keeping North Lake a sustainable campus alongside student life advisor, Candace Eldridge.

“Sustainability is so important to me,” explained Manuella. “People all around the world need to realize the world is not getting bigger but is being reduced, so we need to use our resources wisely.” Even after graduation, sustainability is a practice Manuella intends on maintaining for years to come.

A community coming together
The theme of this year’s Keep Texas Beautiful Conference was “Keeping Texas Beautiful – How Sweet It Is,” and included educational sessions covering a variety of topics in the areas of litter prevention, community beautification and recycling.

“We are very proud that our community continues to uphold the ideals of the Keep Texas Beautiful mission to engage and educate Texans to take responsibility for improving their environment,” stated KIB Board President Jim Scrivner. “We are grateful that our community’s efforts are recognized with these awards.”

North Lake continues to make it a priority to generate eco-efficiencies and drive future resource preservation. For information regarding how to get involved on campus, click here to view the variety of opportunities.
